Help for Financially Needy Students
The revised guidelines for the MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) came into effect on 9 March 2012. Singapore Citizen students with gross monthly household income not exceeding $2,500 and/or gross monthly per capita income not exceeding $625 are eligible to apply for MOE FAS. The validity of each successful MOE FAS application is for one year only. Students have to apply by 31 October each year for FAS for the following year, for example, a Sec 1 student in 2012 has to apply by 31 Oct 2012 for FAS in Sec 2 in 2013.
MOE FAS students can get waiver of school and standard miscellaneous fees. There is no waiver for the 2nd tier miscellaneous fees of $10.00 per month. MOE FAS students can apply to use their Edusave grant to pay for their 2nd tier miscellaneous fees.
In addition, MOE FAS students can get the following FOC:
- approved textbooks
- two sets of school uniform
- two sets of PE attire
- two pairs of socks
- one pair of school shoes
- 75% waiver of national examination fees for graduating students
Both FAS and non-FAS students can apply for the Tzu Chi ‘Seeds of Hope’ Programme to get monthly meal and transport vouchers. Assessment/evaluation and home visits will be conducted by Tzu Chi project volunteers and once successful, students can get meal booklets worth $21.00 valid for a two-week period. Students offered the Tzu Chi transport voucher will have to go to designated Transit-link offices to top-up their ez-link cards from the 1st to 7th of each month. No meal and transport vouchers will be given for the months of June, November and December, being school holidays.
Both FAS and non-FAS students can apply to pay their national examination fees in 2 to 3 instalments and approval is granted on a case-by-case basis. For other forms of financial assistance, please approach your class teacher or the general office staff to make enquiries.
