Curriculum
English Language
The English Language curriculum is designed to strengthen students' communication skills across reading, writing, speaking and listening. It introduces a wide range of texts, encouraging critical analysis and deeper comprehension. Students learn to express themselves clearly and creatively through various activities while developing a solid foundation in grammar and vocabulary. The curriculum promotes independent thought, collaboration and the ability to engage with different perspectives, equipping students with the tools they need for academic achievement and effective communication in everyday life.
English Literature
The Literature curriculum aims to deepen students' appreciation of literary texts while enhancing critical thinking and analytical skills. Students explore a variety of genres including poetry, drama and prose from different cultures and time periods. Through close reading, discussions and diverse performance tasks, they learn to interpret themes, characters and language, developing a deeper understanding of human experiences and societal issues. Moreover, the curriculum encourages creative responses and personal engagement with the texts, fostering empathy, imagination and a lifelong appreciation for literature.
Assessment
To foster student engagement and ownership of learning, and obtain a snapshot of student achievement, the department integrates both Assessment for Learning and Assessment of Learning into its evaluative framework.
